The Pixel Runner is a pocket-sized pixel display that runs a whole catalog of applets — clocks, news, weather, markets, smart-home alerts, Bitcoin stats and more. Configurable from your browser, via your laptop or mobile phone, and no account or subscription is required. It uses a catalog of 1000+ open-source applets.
You are able to write your own in Starlark (Python-like script language) using a development program. An emulator is included. When you pass required tests and validations, you will be able to submit your applet via a pull request in GitHub to get it published in the library.
The hardware is being designed as this device will get a custom PCB.
When a prototype is printed, the test phase will start. This is most likely to adapt the firmware to fully support all custom features of the PCB.
While the test phase is on going, a case design will be created. There will be a physical button to reset the device and a USB-c port to power the device, or connect it to a laptop to update or debug.
When the tests are (almost) completed the first batch of 100 pieces will be produced. When it gets delivered the assembly will be done by hand, as well as installing the firmware and tests. After packaging it will be sold to the ones who have ordered a coupon of 100,000 sats. The total price will be known and the 100,000 sats will be reduced when the Pixel Runner is sold.
Sales of a coupon will get priority.
When the first batch is done, a new batch will be made with the same PCB. In the mean time new versions will be published of the firmware as well as lots of applets.
Estimation: March-April 2027
Milestone status is reported by the project maker.
Currently is shipping only available in the Netherlands. The shipping cost is €10 in sats. Preferable the hand over is done at a meetup somewhere in the Netherlands.
If everything goes well, the shipping starts in April 2027.
Yes! You can create your own applet using Starlark (Python-like programming language) in a framework. It also contains an emulator so you can see what you are developing. Optionally you can submit your applet to the library. Documentation on how to do this will be provided later on the Pixel Runner website.
Yes! There is a big library of 1000+ applets and you can submit yours there too. Documentation on how to do this will be provided later on the Pixel Runner website.
No, there is no speaker inside. This is also not planned in the future.
No, there is no battery inside. You need an USB-c cable and a 4 W adapter to power the Pixel Runner.
The first batch could have "teething problems". Things what can go better, or things what needs to be working but it doesn't. Bugs can be reported and new versions will be released for you to update the device.
The first update is on its way. Follow the project to stay in the loop.

Awesome project Truus! As I've already seen one in real life i can't wait till they are available. Congrats with the first 10k sats. LFG
